On Sunday people stopped by the Allen County Museum to learn more about two of Allen County's biggest war heroes.

The Allen County Museum hosted a discussion that highlighted the lives of two Allen County natives: Leonard Mason and William Metzger Jr.

Both men are U.S. Army Medal of Honor recipients and were recognized for their hard work and determination while fighting in World War II. The speaker said their recognition is important to the community because only a few thousand people have earned this award.

“[They are] the only two from Allen County ever to receive the medal of honor, which is pretty significant because in 156 years in this country there have only been 3,503 men and one woman who have ever received the medal of honor,” said Larry Huffman, Allen County Museum board member.

The Allen County Museum has a Roll of Valor exhibit that honors both Mason and Metzger, as well as other Medal of Honor award recipients.
