LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - ArtSpace/Lima held a night of poetry Friday night to celebrate national poetry month.

ArtSpace/Lima hosts all kinds of artistic events like art shows and pottery making. To represent the importance of national poetry month, they decided to bring a few local poets to share some of their work. One poet talked about the Artemis II launch as well as reflecting on his childhood, while another mentions his trips to England with his wife. Between each poet, there was an opportunity for open mic poetry, where anyone in the audience was able to share their work or freely talk about a topic.

ArtSpace/Lima celebrates National Poetry Month with community poetry night

"Poetry has been an art form for so long, and I remember someone saying to me once, if poetry didn't exist, it would find a way to be born that day because people need to speak their stories and I think that's what Jacob does a good job of is telling his story and telling the truth of the poem as it should be told," says Laurin Wolf, Allen County poet laureate.

"Whenever you're engaging in a group that way, I think that makes a shared experience, you know. And so, whatever you have in your head and your heart, you kind of get to put out onto other folks, and it's good for everybody involved," says Jacob King, a poet.

By making a shared safe place for those to express their poetry, Lima poets were able to share their work and listen to others within the community.
