Beyond Books: Lima Public Library highlights 125 years of service

LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Lima Public Library is celebrating 125 years of serving the community in 2026.

To thank patrons for their continued support, the library is offering a gift basket giveaway as part of the week’s celebration. Library officials say the institution continues to play a vital role in the community, with more than 8,000 visitors recorded in February alone.

What was once primarily a place to find books and newspapers has evolved into a hub offering a wide range of resources and activities.

“A lot of people think, traditionally, libraries are just about books, but the great thing about the library is that we have programming which doesn't even require a library card. We have Wi-Fi hot spots you can check out. We have framed art, we have DVDs, we have board games, we have puzzles, all of these things you can borrow at your local library,” said Liz Smith with the library.

The Lima Public Library system includes four branches located in Elida, Spencerville, Cairo and Lafayette. More information about programs and events can be found online at limalibrary.com.
