LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – It was paradise for area bookworms as the AAUW Book Fair kicked into high gear Tuesday.

Bookworms flock to AAUW Book Fair in Lima to stock up and support education

At 4 p.m., the doors opened, and people rushed inside the former Rite Aid at West Elm Street and Eastown Road to find their next good read. Some shoppers left with only a few books, while others brought large cases to stock up. No matter how big or small the purchase, all proceeds will go toward education scholarships benefiting local Allen County girls. Shoppers shared why they decided to stop by the annual event, which continues throughout the week.

"Classroom libraries are great to have, but they are expensive to build. So, these events are great because you can get a bunch of books that your students are interested in, and you don't have to pay full-price," says Raylee Clay, teacher at Ottawa-Glandorf Local Schools.

"Well, we're teachers from Indian Lake High School, and it's not often you see kids reading anymore, so it's good to have books here that kids can get easily, get them relatively cheap," says Troy Shively, teacher at Indian Lake Local Schools.

"We'd seen pictures online, and we hadn't been here before, kind of overwhelmed by just the pictures online and thought 'we definitely needed to check it out,'" says Amber Shively, teacher at Indian Lake Local Schools.

"Well, I love to read. I've always loved to read, and now, we're trying to get my little one here into reading. So, we're starting early. We came out to get some books, and I love supporting women in education so I think the cause is great, too," says Lorin Carpenter who is shopping books for her daughter.
