BLUFFTON, Ohio (WLIO) — In Bluffton on Saturday, a centuries-old craft was brought back to life.
As part of its “Second Saturday” series, the Swiss Community Historical Society hosted a blacksmithing demonstration, offering a glimpse into life on the homestead. The display included tools and blacksmith-made items dating back to the 1850s.

As part of its “Second Saturday” series, the Swiss Community Historical Society hosted a blacksmithing demonstration.
“Being a blacksmith means you can be very creative in doing all kinds of things, especially when you learn basic techniques,” said Keith Sommer, blacksmith and curator for the Swiss Community Historical Society. “Once you know a lot of these basic techniques, the sky is the limit, so to speak.”
The demonstration is part of the society’s ongoing Second Saturday series, which continues through the summer with more historical skills on display. Next month, the society will host trapping and hunting demonstrations on July 12th, followed by a hearth-cooking event on Aug. 9th.
