LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - Wondering where to take the kids during this dreadful winter? Consider visiting an environmental center.

Located at johnny Appleseed Park, the McElroy environmental education center houses many types of educational animals for kids to feed, pet, and learn about.

This feeding day showed a variety of animals including turtles, snakes, frogs, and tortoises. Led by naturalist Marie Walton, teenage volunteers are able to learn and socialize with the animals. One volunteer has made a special bond with a snake named Bob.

"So, when I first got here, he was like, really shy, and would not be held, and was hard to take to programs. Then I came here, I started holding him all the time and he would just be there and would be like this. All out and wanting to say hello," says Trenton Hanes, Critter Care Volunteer, Johnny Appleseed Park, Lima.

Helping animals is always a great thing to do, but bonding with them can mean the world. Volunteering has made an impact not only on the animals, but the teens here as well.
