LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Now that winter has arrived, nothing beats staying indoors and watching a favorite holiday movie. The Lima YMCA took that idea a step further by adding their pool to the experience.
The first-ever Swim with the Grinch and Santa event allowed adults and children to grab a pool noodle and watch the movie from the water. Thanks to Walmart, attendees also enjoyed cookies, cupcakes, hot chocolate, and popcorn while watching from the observation area. The YMCA hopes this event can become a new holiday tradition for local families.
“Everybody likes to have a little bit of like warm weather experience during the holidays. So even though we have cold weather outside right now and it's snow everywhere, this is a great way for them to come in and kind of still stay warm, get in the water, swim and hang out, but then they're still getting their holiday time in with watching the movie,” said Skylynn Prine, Lima YMCA youth and teen director.
Organizers say they hope to continue the family holiday movie in the pool event next year.
