LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — It was all about celebrating success at Heritage Elementary School on Friday.

Students and staff filled the gym to cheer on perfect attendance, strong test scores, and individual student achievements. Teachers joined in on the fun, playing against each other and students in friendly competitions. One Heritage teacher said the event was inspired by a national teaching conference that encourages educators to incorporate creativity and celebration into their classrooms.

Heritage Elementary hosts pep rally to celebrate student success

“This summer, a few teachers and I got to go to Texas for the ‘Get Your Teach On Conference.’ You do ‘Get Your Teach On Week’ where you do things outside of the box in your classroom that you don’t typically do,” said Jessica Hall, a second and third grade reading teacher at Heritage Elementary School. “So we had ‘glow days,’ we had days where we just celebrated the kids, we wrote notes to them, we cheered them on. So today’s our big pep rally — we’re celebrating the highest readers, who did the best in math… taking moments to really celebrate the good things we’re doing.”

Teachers say recognizing student success helps motivate them and build a positive school culture.
