LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — People lent an arm to support first responders and help save lives at a community blood drive on Tuesday.

The Allen County Red Cross Chapter House hosted a Battle of the Badges Blood Drive, where donors could choose to support either local police or fire and EMS departments with their blood donations. The department that collects the most donations will be declared the winner.

There’s a constant need for blood across the country, and in just a few minutes, a donation can help first responders save lives.

The Allen County Red Cross Chapter House hosted a Battle of the Badges Blood Drive.

“Because those people are always on the front lines, it kind of gives them more to actually helping them do their job as well. So, every two seconds, somebody needs blood, and the need for blood is constant, and we help supply about 40% of the blood in the United States. So it's important to have people come out and donate and save lives," says Ashton Castle, Blood Services, American Red Cross.
