LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – A Lima City Councilman is working to find a solution to help curb gun violence in the city.
Sixth Ward Councilman Dr. Derry Glenn said many residents have reached out to him for help in reducing the number of shootings in Lima. Some incidents this summer have involved young teenagers as either the victim or the shooter.
Glenn said gun violence has become a public health issue in the United States. According to the CDC, an average of 125 people die daily nationwide due to gun violence. He is working on programs to address the issue locally.

“We are going to be working with some groups out of town, bring them in to work with our youth about gun violence, educate our youth on gun violence. They will be coming out in a couple of weeks. We are working fast as we can on this, but I want people to understand that I'm working very hard to come out under this. I'm not just sitting down. I can't sleep at night either when this happened. So yes, I'm out talking about it, and I will work on it. I promise you that we are going to have something together,” said Derry Glenn, Lima’s Sixth Ward Councilman.
Glenn said he hopes to have a plan ready to introduce to reduce gun violence in about three weeks.
