LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - Some Lima-area Democrats were out causing “good trouble” this afternoon as they marched through downtown Lima to the Town Square in protest of the Trump administration.

The demonstration was part of a larger movement that included hundreds of events across the nation pushing back against what organizers describe as growing attacks on civil and human rights. The Lima 50501 branch is part of a nationwide, decentralized organization that holds peaceful, non-violent demonstrations to express their beliefs.

Lima Democrats join national protest for civil rights

"Historically, you have to break that 3.5% of the population to get someone to listen, is what they say. We're one of 25 just in Ohio doing 50501 protests. Across the nation, there are 1000s of branches of 50501 so we're all just adding our numbers together. There's doesn't have to be one specific protest down in Washington, not everybody can get to Washington. We want a place for Lima members to be able to come out and find some hope and peacefully resist," said Sebastian Baughn, leader and organizer with Lima 50501 branch.

The Lima 50501 branch encourages anyone interested to join future protests and make their voices heard.
