LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Lima Fire Department is seeing several firefighters move up the ranks as the department undergoes numerous changes following retirements and departures over the past year.

Fire Chief Jack McDermitt led a promotional ceremony during the mayor’s news conference, recognizing the department’s newly promoted personnel. Captain Andrew Groman has been promoted to deputy chief, Lieutenant Douglas Beck has advanced to captain, and firefighter Lee Parker has been elevated to lieutenant.

“These are just a few of the staff changes happening at the department,” McDermitt said.

McDermitt emphasized the importance of filling these positions to maintain proper training and development within the department.

“We’ve had guys in acting spots for the last year, basically,” McDermitt said. “Getting these positions filled allows us to move up younger guys in the ranks and get them trained up, because we are a younger fire department, and training is critical for us.”
