LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — It’s a rite of passage for many high school students, and prom season is quickly approaching across the region.

The Lima Kiwanis Club is preparing for its annual spring “Diva’s Den,” giving students the opportunity to find the perfect dress at no cost. The event allows high school students to browse hundreds of new and gently used dresses donated by the community and cleaned by Duffy's Cleaners.

The longtime club project aims to ease the financial burden families can face during prom season while ensuring students can fully enjoy the milestone event. Ann Meiring with Kiwanis says the effort focuses on making sure cost is never a barrier for teens.

“This is our prom edition, so ladies can come in and shop and take a dress home for free. So these events are just really important times in the lives of teen girls, and we don't want to let cost bar them from experiencing those.”

Diva’s Den will be held Saturday, March 7, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Lima Masonic Center on North Cole Street. The event is open to any high school student in need of a prom dress. The Kiwanis Club also hosts a fall edition of Diva’s Den to help students prepare for homecoming.
