Lima Senior High School sophomores get a look at career tech pathways

LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - Lima Senior High School students got the chance to explore a handful of possible career paths.

The school held their career expo on Tuesday, highlighting the 12 programs they offer in their career tech program. Each sophomore ranks their top three choices, then had the opportunity to talk with juniors and seniors along with instructors about what is expected from them if they sign up for the classes.

"It takes a lot of skill, and you can make quite a lot of money with welding and all the careers around it," said Brady Mitchell, a junior in welding and metal fabrication.

"If you want to be anything in the medical field at all, definitely take patient care, because you'll get your certified nursing assistant license, and you will be the first one to get your CPR," said Makayla Rader, a senior in patient care technology. "If you take it, you can literally work at a hospital by the time you're a senior."

"I want to be a coach and a teacher, because in like the teaching world, there's not many like male teachers," said sophomore Mason Tatro. "What I figured out from doing early childhood this year is that kids really look up to the male teachers - it's a different impact on their life."

The registration process officially opens on February 10th and students need to be ready to sign up for their career tech program.
