Lima YMCA offers screen-free fun on school holiday

LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Morning fog did not stop parents from bringing their children to the Lima Family YMCA for a special “No-School Day” program held in recognition of Presidents Day.

The program is offered to students in kindergarten through fifth grade on select days when schools are closed around holidays. Throughout the day, children take part in a variety of activities, including arts and crafts, games, gym time and swimming.

Children are supervised by YMCA staff, and parents are encouraged to enroll their kids for a structured and active day.

Skylynn Prine, youth and teen director at the Lima YMCA, said the program provides both safety and enrichment.

“It’s a safe place for the kids to come. The parents can go to work and drop their kids off from nine to four here, knowing that they’re in a safe area. They get to utilize a lot. We’re electronic free, so we don’t really have electronics or anything. They’re just using their brains.”

The next “No-School Days” are scheduled for Friday, April 3, and Monday, April 6, around the Easter holiday.

The cost is $15 for YMCA members and $20 for nonmembers.
