COLUMBUS, Ohio (WLIO) — If you have a lead foot, look out. The state of Ohio is looking at increasing the money you pay for excessive speeding.

A bill has been introduced in the Ohio House to impose a $200 fine on top of regular speeding penalties if you are caught speeding 30 miles per hour or more over the speed limit. Regular speeding penalties vary depending on where the speeding took place.

If passed, the bill will also put four points on your license for going over the speed limit by 30 miles per hour or more. Last year, the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported more than 27,000 speed-related crashes statewide, with around 300 resulting in fatalities. The bill is currently in committee, awaiting a decision on whether lawmakers will take up the measure.
