LIMA, OH (WLIO) – More than 70 million Americans are expected to travel this week for the Fourth of July holiday, according to AAA. But many aren’t just using the summer holiday for a long-awaited vacation.
Whether it's a beach getaway, a trip to an amusement park, or camping in the great outdoors, people are finding ways to take a break. The consumer website WalletHub has ranked Ohio as the third-best state in the country for a road trip, behind only Minnesota and New York.
AAA says road trips are proving to be a popular option this summer.
“Got a lot of people just doing road trips, even just some short vacations, just going somewhere for a couple days. And of course, Alaska is always huge this time of year. And surprisingly, Vancouver was really huge this time of year. So that kind of leads into that Alaska season as well,” says Cindy Nelson, Manager of AAA Lima.
For those planning to hit the road, the good news is at the pump. According to GasBuddy, the national average gas price is $3.15 per gallon — the lowest for the Fourth of July holiday since 2021.
