LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Ohio Tenant-Landlord Act of 1974 has been protecting the rights and responsibilities of tenants and landlords for more than 50 years, yet many still do not fully understand it.
The West Ohio Community Action Partnership (WOCAP) provides services to help navigate these rights. The organization investigates fair housing complaints, offers counseling on tenant and landlord responsibilities, and assists in developing plans to overcome obstacles to fair housing.
WOCAP Housing Program Manager Vance Cuthrell said the most common complaints involve maintenance issues and lease agreements.

The Ohio Tenant-Landlord Act of 1974 has been protecting the rights and responsibilities of tenants and landlords for more than 50 years.
"Mostly maintenance issues, and also, in their leases, some tenants are required to pay for additional expenses beyond rent," Cuthrell said. "We help clarify those responsibilities and address the concerns they have."
Residents with questions or concerns about landlord-tenant issues can contact WOCAP at 419-227-2586. The organization serves the city of Lima, as well as Allen and Mercer counties.
