LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — It’s official: retail giant Target is coming to Lima. Target Corporation has closed on its purchase of the vacant Macy's site on Elida Road. Target purchased the site for $4.5 million, according to documents filed with the Allen County Recorder’s Office on January 31.
The next step in the process is for the Macy's store to be demolished this spring. A brownfield grant was awarded to the Allen County Land Bank to pay for that demolition.
Target is based in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota, and opened its first store in 1962. The company now operates nearly 2,000 stores in all 50 states. The Allen Economic Development Group and others have been working for years to bring a Target to Lima.
A tentative opening date is the summer of 2026.
