LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - Rhodes State College Young Scholars making their mark on the program with their artistic side.

Wednesday's workshop is the final project of the school year, and for faculty advisor Heather Seddelmeyer, it's a chance for the students to find out if this is a career field they'd like to pursue.
As part of their Behind the Brand workshop, the students all made their own vision of the Rhodes Young Scholars logo. The program doesn't have an official logo, so the workshop also operated as a contest and the winning student's design will become the official logo for the program.
Rhodes Young Scholars is made up of local students from 8th through 10th grade who must have a 2.25 GPA. Wednesday's workshop is the final project of the school year, and for faculty advisor Heather Seddelmeyer, it's a chance for the students to find out if this is a career field they'd like to pursue.
"It was a way for our young scholars to take a look at what it is to be a brand, to learn a little bit about about how we are a brand, what it is to look at maybe going into that type of industry for the future," said Seddelmeyer. "That is one of the components of the Rhodes Young Scholars Program, to give our our students an opportunity to look at things that they might be interested in the future, and also things that they might not be interested in the future, which is just as important."
"I really want to commend the leadership of Dr. Spears, president of Rhodes State College, Kitt Horn, Heather [Seddelmeyer], the whole administrative team for being very forward-thinking with regards to making an investment in what we call the Young Rhodes Scholar Program, because ultimately, the end goal is, is that they can attend Rhodes State College for free," said Dr. Willie Heggins, a board member of the Rhodes State College Young Scholars. "When you think about making an investment in the future generation, that's really big."
The winning student in the logo contest will be offered an internship with Unicent Marketing, one of the partners of the workshop.
"I wanted to make it clear the difference between a logo and a brand - your logo is that exterior, that outward image, and your brand is your character, your values," said Frank Cage, owner of Unicent Marketing. "Above all, my message for them in going into the creative process is honing in on who they are, because at the end of this competition, at the end of this this workshop, as they go on in their careers and their futures - who they are, their morals, their beliefs, their values, those are the things that are going to get them into the doors that they're walking towards."
The student who wins the logo design contest will also receive a laptop from Rhodes State College.
