LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Live animal projects are just a small part of the 4-H opportunities on display at the Allen County Fair.
The fair’s special interest projects allow students to explore a wide range of skills and interests they have or want to develop. There are nearly 200 special interest projects that students can bring to the fair.
For students who love animals but may not have the space to raise horses or cows, there are projects that allow them learn more about those interests. Some projects are research-based, such as studying Ohio birds, while others provide students with hands-on opportunities.
“Whether it be from our kids that are taking cooking projects, woodworking projects, some of our welding projects down there. We also have just some of our like mental health and some of those kind of things that are down there to where our sewing projects that we also had our style show before the fair started," says Kelly Cobie, Allen County 4-H educator.
The special interest projects give students an opportunity to showcase what they have learned and developed throughout the year.
The Youth Exhibits building is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily for those who want to check out the students’ special interest projects.
