LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - Area high school students pitching their projects to make a difference at Monday's Lima Rotary Club meeting.
30 students from 11 schools made up this year's Allen Lima Youth Leadership class. Five projects were presented to the club from mental health and addiction, to composting and recycling. The winning team got a $1,500 grant from the United Way of Greater Lima to take their project from paper to reality.
The winning group was the Soil Savers, who want to reduce food waste in schools.

"We want to put bins inside cafeterias, in teachers' lounges," said Olivia Venturella, a sophomore at LCC. "We want to put compost bins in the back of the school, and then be able to create a learning environment for students. That way we can mix it and observe it and then eventually harvest that soil."
The class also graduated Monday with great hopes of making a change in the world. Applications for next year's youth class is underway.
