LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Visit Greater Lima is inviting residents and visitors to share what they enjoy about Lima and Allen County through a series of photo contests and outdoor activities.
The organization has been holding monthly photo contests, each with a different theme. Round three recently concluded with “Pet-Friendly Adventures,” and a previous round focused on Allen County Fair photos. Organizers say they plan to continue the contests throughout the year and have been surprised by the community’s response.
Betsy Billingsley, executive director of Visit Greater Lima, said, “Overwhelming. We were really surprised by our second one. We had over 30 entrances, which we, you know, you think, oh, maybe a couple here and there, but people are really catching on. And we just love those pictures that you take with your grandkids or the family, or, you know, a great day that you've had here in town.”
In addition to the contests, Visit Greater Lima is encouraging participation in its Geotrail, an outdoor adventure attracting many visitors from out of town. Geocaching is an activity where GPS coordinates and clues lead participants to cleverly hidden containers, called geocaches, throughout the area. Lima has 10 geocaches hidden across the city.
Billingsley explained, “It's a download. It's very simple to do. We give you clues. You can find them, and then once you hit all of our caches, you get a really cool coin. So it's something fun for the family.”
Instructions for the Geotrail and contest details can be downloaded from Visit Greater Lima’s Facebook page and website.
