LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The West Ohio Community Action Partnership is once again offering a program aimed at strengthening fathers and families across the region.
The organization has received a grant that will allow it to restart its 12-session Fatherhood Program designed to empower fathers from all backgrounds. The workshop will use the “24:7 Dad A.M.” handbook developed by the National Fatherhood Initiative, an evidence-based curriculum used by organizations nationwide to help fathers become more engaged and effective parents.
Program leaders say the goal is to address the barriers many men face so they can focus on building strong relationships with their children.
“We want to build the fathers from the ground up like whatever their barriers are. We want to help them with that, because it's hard to be a father when you're dealing with other crises in your life,” said Kristina Keller, community services director for the West Ohio Community Action Partnership.
The 12-session class is open to any dad, stepdad or father figure who wants to learn how to be a positive influence in their children’s lives. There is no cost to participate.
Organizers are currently compiling a list of participants. Those interested in joining the program can call 419-227-2586 EXT 141 for more information.
