LIMA, OH (WLIO) - A car show tradition at the Star Spangled Spectacular puts the spotlight on veterans and car enthusiasts for their years of service.

The "Veterans appreciation cruise-in" at Faurot Park featured close to 100 cars with a variety of makes and models, with some cars dating back to as early as 1920.

The organizers of the cruise-in dedicate the event to veterans, some of whom are members of the car community, and want to show them their appreciation for their bravery and sacrifice to serve their country. They also do it to remind us all why we should be thanking veterans on Independence Day.

"We do it for the veterans so they can be recognized, you know. They come down and they get together and talk, and I always said, If you're a veteran, come on down; if you're not a veteran, come on down and talk to a veteran and have good comradery," said Andy Maravola, co-chairman of the cruise-in.

There were 28 trophies to be handed out, some of which were for "Best in Show,"  one for "Most Unique Vehicle,"  and one for the oldest veteran.
