SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP, OH (WLIO) - The student population at Apollo Career Center drastically rose on Friday as 1,200 8th and 9th graders came out to see what the school has to offer.

Students got to stop by HVAC and electrical systems technology, along with several other programs.
They come from the 11 feeder schools of the career center and are seeing if the programming is the right fit for them. Some of the classes they got to see included the new criminal justice program where Lima Police officers shared about their careers. They also got to stop by HVAC and electrical systems technology, along with several other programs. Administrators say the visit is a great way for the students to better understand the career center's purpose.

"They don't realize the amount of programs that are available. You know, us getting a new criminal justice coming in, things that are offered in both high school and our adult education courses. So it's just a great experience for them to see that Apollo is an option for them in the future but also to see that there's many careers out there that they can do even after high school," said Jamie Buell, Apollo school counselor and admissions coordinator.

Apollo also opens its doors to sophomores to come back and get some hands-on experience in labs. Apollo's programming is for juniors and seniors from their participating schools.
