Area schools show off choreography in Allen County Fair Baton & Flag Corp Competition

The Allen County Fair Flag and Baton Competition saw students from eight high schools across Allen, Auglaize, and Wood Counties perform in groups and some solos. 

LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The silent members of school bands got the spotlight all to themselves at the fair on Sunday.

Though they often only take up a small portion of the football field during halftime performances, they put in just as much work practicing their choreography and making sure each twirl, throw, and catch goes smoothly. 

The Allen County Fair Flag and Baton Competition saw students from eight high schools across Allen, Auglaize, and Wood Counties perform in groups and some solos. For many schools, this is the only time these students have an opportunity to put on their own show without the rest of the band.

For many schools, this is the only time these students have an opportunity to put on their own show without the rest of the band. 

"It's definitely visual aspects; it's a lot of just bringing colors and stuff to look at other than just the marching of the band. Definitely the sound comes from the band, but the color and visual aspects come from us," said Cadence Deal, a junior in the Spencerville Flag Corp. 

Deal adds that being part of a much smaller team also brings them closer together.
