LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The local DECA students get some good practice in before they start competitions this winter.
Around 300 students from 9 schools in northwest and central Ohio took part in a fall leadership conference at UNOH. DECA is a national organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management. The conference gives the students the chance to practice organizing a branding campaign and public speaking
"The good thing that DECA does for students is it gets them out of their comfort zone. Whether they are doing problem-solving skills that we go over in class and they get to get in front of adult judges, and it get to get them out of their comfort zone," says Aaron Roth, Millstream DECA. "What I always think they get to apply what they learned in class. Instead of taking a test, now they get to come to a competition and use what they have learned in front of judges."
The students will be facing the judges in January for the district competition and the top teams will move on to states later in the spring.
