WAPAKONETA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Wapakoneta Ministerial Association has continued its decades-long tradition of holding Wednesday Lenten services for people from different churches in the area.

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent for Christians, and each week during Lent, a different pastor from one of the local churches delivers a message during the service.

The theme of the message focused on the Book of Luke. Church officials look forward to this time of year when the community can gather and worship together.

"It's a great blessing that we've gotten to host the Lenten service, or the Ash Wednesday service, for the entire Wapakoneta community for decades now," said Fr. Sean Wilson with St. Joseph Catholic Church. "It's a great blessing to get to do that, to have everybody kind of come together in their faith and to mark the beginning of this Lenten season. This is always, traditionally the holiest season of the year where we kind of all focus more intensely on our prayer, on our generosity, on our fasting to prepare ourselves for Easter. So it's just a great blessing to have the entire community kind of focus together on starting our journey towards Easter, and really the holiest week of the year."

The Lenten services are held every Wednesday at noon at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Wapakoneta. Following the service, attendees are invited to enjoy a meal together.
