LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The City of Lima is getting half a million dollars from the federal government to take stock of potential properties that could be redeveloped.
The City of Lima is receiving $500,000 in a Brownfield Assessment Grant through the United States Environmental Protection Agency. A Brownfield is any abandoned or underutilized property that could have environmental contamination that would hinder development. They are focusing on six specific census tract sites in the city and are asking for the assistance of area residents and property owners.
"What we are asking the public to do on May 2nd at the public library is to come to a community involvement meeting where they can learn what exactly a Brownfield is. They can also then provide us with input about sites that could be a potential Brownfield that we can add to an inventory list, and from that list we will determine what are our priority sites to go out and assess," explained Amber Martin, Lima's Workforce and Small Business Development coordinator.
That meeting will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Lima Public Library auditorium, located at 650 W Market St, Lima, OH 45801, on Thursday, May 2, 2024. You will learn about the steps for Brownfield assessment and reuse. For more details about the program, you can find it at the City of Lima's Brownfield Assessment Program website at https://www.limaohio.gov/809/Brownfield-Assessment-Program.
