Cleveland Jackson Denied, Still on Death Row

It is one of the most horrific crimes in Lima's history and one of the two men convicted in the deadly shooting ten years ago is one step closer to being executed.

Cleveland Jackson was sentenced to death for the killings of 17 year old Leneshia Williams and 3 year old Jayla Grant on January 3rd, 2002 at a Eureka street apartment.

Jackson and his half brother Jeronique Cunningham were believed to be robbing  the apartments occupants, herding them into a corner and shooting 8 people, killing Grant and Williams.

The two were caught days later at a Dayton apartment complex.

One of Jackson's death penalty cases was overturned by the Ohio Supreme Court  on a technicality, changing it to life in prison, however his second execution order has been upheld by 3 courts. The Ohio Supreme Court, Toledo Federal Court, and now the 6th Circuit Federal Court of Appeals.

Allen County Prosecutor Juergen Waldick says Jackson's running out of options.

Waldick says a final outcome could still be many years away. As of Tuesday though, both Jackson and Cunningham sit on death row at the Chillicothe Correctional Institution.
