Countdown to Armstrong's First Step on the Moon.jpg

Wapakoneta Ohio celebrated their hometown hero Neil Armstrong's contribution to space and history by marking the minute he set foot on the moon 50 years ago.

At exactly 10:56 p.m., the confetti flew to honor Armstrong and arguably one of the United States greatest accomplishment of putting a man on the moon. Four Ohio Astronauts and one of the frogmen that pulled the Apollo 11 crew out of the ocean after they splashed down were on hand to help with the 50th-anniversary celebration. This is day 9 of the 10-day celebration and organizers are thrilled how Wapakoneta has welcomed the world to mark the occasion. The Wapakoneta Summer Moon Festival will wrap up Sunday with a variety of activities at the Armstrong Air and Space Museum.
