Would you get into a cement ring with people who just want to destroy you? It may sound crazy, but it’s just the demolition derby.

Drivers from all over the area wanted to put their 'metal' to the test at the Allen County Fair on Monday night. Many of the entries begin working on the car or truck a year in advance to have them destroyed in a matter of minutes. This is a popular fair staple at county fairs all over this region, but four counties have ramped up the excitement for the sport with the "I-75 Challenge", which allows drivers to earn points for competing in the demo derbies at their county fairs.

“This year we added Miami County. It started with Auglaize, then went to Shelby, then to Miami and this is the conclusion tonight. It’s a point system, with all of the divisions and the grand finale winner, they will get a six foot tall trophy and cash,” said Dennis Fricke, Allen County Fair Board.

This is the second year for the I-75 Challenge.
