With temperatures taking a deep dive, Dominion Energy is asking customers to do their due diligence in conserving natural gas.
Peggy Ehora of Dominion said conservation is needed just like you would on a hot summer day to not overwork your electric appliances. Dominion is asking you not to use any gas appliances such as doing an extra load of laundry if you use a gas dryer or not to use a gas stove more than you normally would. Especially with a lot of people home for the cold days, it could put a strain on the system.
"When you get to temperatures like we're seeing, today and tomorrow, it just strains the pressure a little bit because everyone is using more," said Ehora, external affairs manager. "When you think about not only the number of residential customers that use gas, but commercial and industrial customers it can get a little bit hairy when you get temperatures that are not what we see on a typical winter day."
Dominion will continue to help in an emergency if you think you smell a gas leak or your natural gas isn't working at all.
