The previous record of $85,000 was set back in 2011. Egbert gets $22,000 from the sale, the rest of the money will be given to the Youth Reserve Program, to be used for the carcass contests, scholarships, and many other 4H and FFA activities. Egbert raised this steer in honor of her grandfather and she will be using her portion for college and saving a little.  While she was happy with the sale, she was sad to give up her steer.

”They truly do become your best friend,” says Egbert.  “You give up hours of anything else, whether it’s sports, whether it’s you summer, whether it’s anything, sleep, you give up a lot to do them and you are out there a lot.  And they know more about you, than sometimes you know about you.  The bond with them is extremely, extremely close.  So being with them you get so emotionally attached to them. So being able to watch him leave was very hard.”

All 11 livestock sales set records Sunday, the total sale amount reached over $676,000.
