Elida man killed in single-vehicle crash in Amanda Township

LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — An Elida man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Amanda Township Friday morning.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says 23-year-old Zachary Jacobs was driving north on North Sunderland Road just after 7 a.m. Jacobs drove off the left side of the road and hit a tree. He was taken to Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The crash remains under investigation.

The Highway Patrol reminds motorists to always wear a seat belt.

LIMA – On August 21, 2026, at approximately 7:10 A.M., the Lima Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to a report of a single -vehicle crash on N. Sunderland Road in Amanda Township, Allen County.

Zachary Jacobs, age 23, of Elida, was driving a 2022 Honda CRV north on N. Sunderland Road. Mr. Jacobs drove off the left side of the roadway and struck a tree.

Mr. Jacobs was transported to Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased. 

The vehicle sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene by Miller 

Performance. 

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Allen County Sheriff’s Office, American Township Fire & EMS, Elida Police Department, Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District, and Miller Performance. 

The crash remains under investigation. The Ohio State Highway Patrol reminds motorists to always wear a seat belt.
