Bullying continues in high profile media stories across the country, but it happens right here in the Lima area as well. One local teen is doing his part to prevent it.
Trey wheeler is only a freshman at Elida High School, but he's already making a name for himself after creating a website for bullying prevention.
Bullyingpreventionteam.com is a site designed for those who are being bullied to get their story out, post prayer requests and find comfort in the stories of others. It happens in the halls, but more and more the bullying is occurring online through social networking sites. Trey says it's easier for kids to bully via the Internet because the comments don't need to be made face to face.
The freshman says he usually lets it roll off his back when classmates call him names in the hallways, but there are some who can't shrug it off quite as easily. Trey knows that in extreme cases bullying can lead to teen suicide... And that's exactly what he hopes to prevent by giving the bullied kids an outlet for their feelings and a support system to help counteract the mean words.
Trey hopes the website will gain followers form Elida and eventually across the nation. To become a part of the team, visit Bullyingpreventionteam.com to register.
