LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Five residents and two dogs were rescued from the roof of a Lima home early Saturday morning after a fire blocked their escape route.
According to the Lima Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched just after 3:30 a.m. to a home in the 900 block of Brice Avenue following reports of heavy smoke inside the residence.
Fire officials said the occupants were unable to exit through the first floor due to the conditions inside the home. The five residents and two dogs climbed onto the roof through a second-story window, where firefighters safely rescued them.
The fire department said the blaze originated in the basement and spread to the first floor. The cause of the fire remains under investigation and has not yet been determined. Officials have not released an estimate of the damage to the home. No injuries were reported.
