Former Elida head of maintenance charged with aggravated theft

The former head of Elida School District maintenance has submitted a not guilty plea after being charged with stealing between a 100 to 500-thousand dollars worth of property and services.

Five months after resigning from his position, 42-year-old Matthew Burton was charged with two counts of aggravated theft and one count of theft in office Friday. Burton entered a not guilty plea a week later. The Allen County Grand Jury indictment states the dates of his alleged offenses occurred over a course of ten years, starting in 2007 through this year.

A pretrial hearing is scheduled for November 20, 2017.
