Children were excited to take home new books today.
The Lima Junior Service League gave out free books to all 1st and 2nd graders at Independence Elementary. Lesley Fry from Lima Junior Service League says giving kids the chance to pick out books they like gets them excited about reading and she believes that's a great way to support reading in the community and for children to have books in case they don't have any at home.
Lesley believes it's important to instill a love for reading in the kids at a young age.
"The students are really excited, their first question is always do, we get to keep them.. Of course they get to keep them that's why we work so hard throughout the year so that they can take these books home with them and keep the forever," says Lesley Fry, from Lima Junior Service League.
The Lima Junior Service League has donated over two thousand books so far and they plan to keep donating to more schools and libraries in Allen County.
