LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Learning was electric at the Allen County Museum on Saturday afternoon during its second annual Hot Cocoa and History Day.

The museum hosted the hands-on learning event centered on electricity. Along with enjoying hot cocoa, children learned about electric magnets, conductivity and circuits, while younger kids participated in static electricity activities.

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers also brought a large display to help explain how electricity works. Hot Cocoa and History Day was created to provide an educational opportunity for children during the winter months through a variety of hands-on activities.

“That's the best way kids learn. That's just the truth of it. Play is so important for children's learning, and if we can help facilitate any of that and learn about something big, like electricity, we just want to be a part of that. We just wanted another day, especially during the winter, that was just a fun, free day for families. That was really what we wanted to focus on local history, but just somewhere that you can go out and have a free day in the coldest month of the year," said Hannah Bergstedt, public engagement and learning coordinator at the Allen County Museum.

The Allen County Museum is looking forward to continuing the event next year.
