LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Hardin and Putnam County sheriff’s offices are warning residents about a text message scam.

Several people have reported receiving messages claiming they have an outstanding warrant, missed jury duty or a parking violation. Officials say if the message includes a “pay now” link or a QR code, it is likely a scam.

They add that legitimate court notices are sent through the U.S. Postal Service or delivered by a process server or law enforcement officer. If you receive a message like this, never provide personal or financial information. Officers say there is no need to report the scam unless you have already shared that information.
