On Friday evening, students from 19 regional high schools participated in the 36th annual Kewpee High School Art Invitational at ArtSpace/Lima. Students were able to show their work through a variety of mediums, ranging from drawing and painting to digital and mixed media, as well as ceramics, jewelry, photography, printmaking, and sculpture. Through whichever medium a student embraces, organizers say the art allows students to display their heart and soul.

"There's a lot of kids that this is their voice, and while they may not be able to or want to put it out in any other way, there's a comfort and a place in their soul where they can say what they need to say with their artwork, and it crosses all boundaries, all cliques, all groups because this is their creative soul, and we have seen in the last 4 years, maybe 5 years, how difficult some of these subjects are approached by the kids, and they handle it beautifully," says Sally Windle, Executive Director, ArtSpace/Lima.

Harry and Scott Shutt of Kewpee Restaurants have been supporting this art invitational for 36 years to provide area students a chance to display their artistic talents and work in a professional setting.
