LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Kids dressed as their favorite characters and creatures went out to get some candy at Safety City on Saturday.
Lima Noon Optimist's Safety City continued their decades-long tradition of bringing together community partners for a free trick-or-treat. Over 30 organizations from the area passed out candy, and organizers say this year had the largest turnout of trick-or-treaters in over 20 years. The event is also a good opportunity to show off the Safety City campus and get kids familiar with our local first responders.
"There's so many important things that we do here at Safety City. Eric does a great job teaching the children all kinds of skills and it's just a great place to be. Hopefully, the kids can see what we're doing out here today," said Bob Laman, chairman of Safety City's Trick or Treat.
"We want them to see us in a different light. Not when we're actually working and on calls and things like that. See that we're normal people, we like to have fun, we like to have conversations, joke around," added the Lima Police Department's Safety City Officer, Eric Mericle.
Other groups participating in the trick-or-treat included Mercy Health EMS, OSU Lima, and the Lima Fire Department.
