Now that COVID cases have dropped drastically in Allen County, we have taken the top spot in the cases of influenza hospitalizations in the state.
Allen County Public Health states that there are 39 individuals to date that have been hospitalized due to the flu. The flu season runs from mid-October to early May. Most of those cases had not received an annual flu vaccination prior to their testing.
Allen County Health Commissioner Brandon Fischer says, “A lot of the hospitalizations from influenza have taken place in the last month. So, we’re just advising the community to be on the lookout for signs and symptoms of the flu. And it’s not too late to go out and get a flu shot. While the flu shot this year may not have been the best, it’s still is good at preventing hospitalizations.”
Fischer says to be diligent and wash your hands and sanitize areas to help prevent the spread.
