An annual bake sale not only helps fill a Valentine’s Day sweet tooth, but keeps children and mothers who are incarcerated connected. The program is called Isiah’s Hope and has been going on since 2016.
Judy Frisby took her grandson Isiah to visit his mother in prison and they notice that some of the children are able to only do visitations one time a year, usually around Christmas. Isiah remarked that all kids need to see their mothers and the non-profit was born. They hold an annual bake sale to raise money to help transport kids and their caregivers to Dayton and Marysville to visit their mothers or set up video visits at Forest Park United Methodist Church. Frisby sees the benefit that the visitations have in her family.
“It really warms my heart,” says Frisby. “I see it firsthand how much my grandson needs to see his mother. I see how much my daughter needs to see her son, sometimes she tells me that is the light at the end of the tunnel, is seeing my boy and the same for him.”
Frisby says she has been able to help around a dozen children and mothers stay connected through the program.
