K9 dog shows off his bite at St. Marys Rotary

A drug sniffing dog visited the St. Marys Rotary Club, not to bust anyone, but to educate area business leaders about the many uses of a K9 Unit.

Deputy Mike Peterson of the Auglaize County Sheriff's Office, along with his partner Bandit, gave Rotarians a demonstration of the dog's uses. Bandit is the only K9 Unit for the Auglaize County Sheriff's Office. He is used for drug raids and to track suspects, as well as to find missing children and elderly residents. Rotarian, Kevin Lawler learned just how useful Bandit can be to apprehend a suspect.  Bandit, bit and then held onto Lawler while the Rotarian wore a protective sleeve.

Bandit is eight years old.  K9 Units are typically used in law enforcement for a decade. The dog lives with Peterson's family when the two aren't at work. Peterson says the two have typical road patrol duties but are also called whenever a K9 Unit is needed.
