The brother of a former lima city councilman was in court today for sentencing on a felony charge related to illegally obtaining signatures on petitions for a county commissioners candidate.
Larry Magnus pleaded no contest in August to a violation of prohibitions, a fifth degree felony.
Magnus who was on probation for a previous felony conviction admitted he was not present when petitions for Brian Cheney were circulated at a local wine store.
According to Ohio law it is illegal for a convicted felon still on probation to handle petitions for candidates.
Judge Jeffrey Reed today sentenced Magnus to four years community control.
That sentence will run concurrently with his previous felony conviction, effectively adding an extra year to his probation.
