ADA, OH (WLIO) - Ohio Northern University law students getting a firsthand look at the Third District Court of Appeals in action.
The court heard arguments from a case at the Pettit College of Law on Tuesday morning. The judges take the court on the road to ONU to coincide when first-year law students are learning about the appellate practice. Judge John Willamowski, Judge Juergen Waldick, and Judge William Zimmerman all graduated from Ohio Northern Law School and had classes in the room where they held court. The judges want the students to see the arguments as a real-life lesson for their future.
"The professionals that are experienced and are doing it already, any profession is going to like to see how it works out in the world. Hopefully they take away the professionalism that they see on display today and the work that goes into actually doing an appellate argument correctly," stated Judge John Willamowski, Ohio's Third District Court of Appeals.
Judge Willamowski says he and his fellow judges can't sit on the bench forever, and hopes the students will be inspired to run for a judgeship someday.
