LEIPSIC, OH (WLIO) - Christians gathered in Leipsic to provide a visual reminder of what Jesus Christ did before his crucifixion.
The Leipsic Methodist Church joined other churches all over the world in the tradition of carrying the cross through the streets on Good Friday. The group started at the Meadows of Leipsic and walked around one mile to their church on the other side of the village. Along the way, they made a couple of stops to read scripture. The Carrying of the Cross is used to help tell and remember Jesus’s story during this holy season.
“The early church used to reenact the events of holy week as a way of remembering,” says Pastor Laurie Beaty, Leipsic Methodist Church. “So, anytime we are able to put ourselves into scripture and put ourselves into being there in that place, reenacting in all of our senses, we start to remember more and more. It is what the early church did to be able to tell the story again, and again, and again of the death and the resurrection of Jesus Christ. “
The Leipsic Methodist brought back the tradition of the cross walk a couple of years ago and invited other denominations to join them for the walk.
